Here’s what has dominated my week and will consume my weekend: the Of Enemies and Endings first pass.
It also happens to be the last time I’ll ever be able to make changes to any of The Ever Afters books (a bittersweet moment, for sure, but DEFINITELY historic). I always do the same thing at this stage–I read it out loud.
Once upon a time, in college (a.k.a. many years ago), I took a fairy tale course. Our professor’s red editing pen was ruthless, and she suggested we read our work aloud to catch any typos, repeated words, or unnecessary phrases. Nine years later, I’m still taking Professor Darlington’s advice. My four hundred page novel takes way longer to read than those five page college papers though! Sometimes, I get a little hoarse.
That’s my big news. My minor news is that this month’s giveaway has been pushed to the first week of February. Why? Because I found out that one of my new favorite authors, Gayle Forman, is coming to Powell’s here in Portland, and I want to make sure I snag a new copy of her new book, I Was Here, to add to the giveaway. WOOHOO!
(Also, it’ll be my reward to myself for finishing the first pass the day before. :-P)
Okay, my voice is somewhat rested. Back to the OE&E read-aloud marathon!
